Video of historic fighter jet Rawlings used to fly under Adomi Bridge pops up

A video has surfaced of the plane Flt. Jerry John Rawlings used when he reportedly touched the water’s surface as he flew under the Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku in the Eastern region.

The plane used by the former president is said to be one of the first fighter jets imported into the country by Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah in 1966.

In the video sighted by YEN.com.gh, a young narrator gives a historic account of the events of 1979, who also revealed that the plane used 312 liters of fuel at the time.

Rawlings joined the Ghana Air Force shortly after he completed Achimota College in 1967.

In March 1968, he was posted to Takoradi, in Ghana’s Western Region, to continue his studies. He graduated and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in January 1969.
